Another awesome job came my way, namely to do the creative direction and graphic design for a new club/party concept named: We Play Ibiza.

We Play Ibiza is an upfront club night party concept developed by Superstar Dj & Producer Corey Gibbons and Selekted Music and features upfront and classic Ibiza tunes with legendary club atmosphere. The nights will feature A-List Ibiza Dj's like Steve Angello, Laidback Luke, Mark Knight, Funkagenda and many more. The events are supported by We Play Ibiza resident Dj's Corey Gibson, Hitmeister D and Dirty Herz.

Above you will find some examples of how the look and feel is working. The job is still in development stage so keep tuned to my blog to follow the developments. Needless to say this job was/is amazing to work on!

André and myself have just finished a Dirty Herz remix for infamous band Joy Division (later to be New Order). We both have been big Joy Division / Ian Curtis fans for a long time and finally it was time for a remix!. We both love "Love will tear us apart", so that's the track we remixed. The response in the National and International Indie dance music scene so far has been off the hook. We also contacted the daughter of the late Cult hero lead singer of Joy Division; Ian Curtis and she loves the remix!

More on Joy Division:
Joy Division were an English rock band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the band primarily consisted of Ian Curtis (vocals and occasional guitar), Bernard Sumner (guitar and keyboards),[1] Peter Hook (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Stephen Morris (drums and percussion).

Joy Division rapidly evolved from their initial punk rock influences, to develop a sound and style that pioneered the post-punk movement of the late 1970s. According to music critic Jon Savage, the band "were not punk but were directly inspired by its energy".[2] Their self-released 1978 debut EP, An Ideal for Living, caught the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson. Joy Division's debut album, Unknown Pleasures, was released in 1979 on Wilson's independent record label Factory Records, and drew critical acclaim from the British press. Despite the band's growing success, vocalist Ian Curtis was beset with depression and personal difficulties, including a dissolving marriage and his diagnosis with epilepsy. Curtis found it increasingly difficult to perform at live concerts, and often had seizures during performances.

In May 1980, on the eve of the band's first American tour, Curtis, overwhelmed with depression, committed suicide. Joy Division's posthumously released second album, Closer (1980), and the single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" became the band's highest charting releases. After the death of Curtis, the remaining members reformed as New Order, achieving critical and commercial success.

WE WON THE OFFICIAL COCA COLA TV COMMERCIAL MUSIC PITCH !!!!

So the coolest music pitch lands on your desk... No pressure!
The official big National and International Coca Cola soccer TV Commercial "The Ultimate Goal" needed a soundtrack and sound design and thus Coke wrote out a pitch. 6 Music production companies from South Africa and the USA entered and we (my good friend and buddy André Frauenstein and myself) were asked to compete in the pitch as a wild card at the last minute and I'm very pleased to announce that WE WON!!!!

The Music needed to have a tie-in with the International song "Open Happiness" created by some famous International music all-stars such as Butch Walker, Cee-Lo Green from Gnarles Barkley, Brendon Urie (Panic at the Disco), Patrick Stump (Fall out Boy), Janelle Monáe and Travis McCoy (Gym Class Heroes)!

We got the separates from the USA and wrote, arranged and produced our own new music track specifically for the TV ad. We also did the sound design for the ad. Needless to say we're very proud of the end result and very happy we won the pitch! It's going on air tonight on the 25th. of May on all channels!

The door... It has been there every morning while driving to work. It stands its ground on an abandoned construction site and I just find it fascinating for some odd reason. Especially in the morning, when the sun is still rising, the lighting on it is just amazing. I had contemplated many times before whether to photograph it or not, but until now I had not actually done it. Then, on the morning of Tuesday the 7th of April, the moment felt right. The light was perfect. The morning temperature nice and warm. I was on my way to work when I parked my car alongside Homestead Road to finally shoot the door. The time was 09.02. Ridi Dureco had just opened her radio program on Talk Radio 702. I shot the door, finally. That little piece of restlessness inside me had been satisfied.

I've been wanting to create a blog for a long time and between lame excuses why not to do it and busy times at work I finally made some time to create it. Why the name Now & Wow? It used to be the name of a cool underground club in The Netherlands that unfortunately had to close down a couple of years ago. The club was known for its controversial, provocative, innovative, expressive and ground breaking attitude and parties. All values I try to project in my personal work. I want it to be relevant, I want it to be modern, I want it to be talked about, I want it to be Now & Wow. If it's not just that, I have failed... Since I've only started my blog now, I will be posting and back-posting interesting work, facts, projects and things that make and made me tick, so please do check out the whole blog and archives. MEET 'N GREET WITH THE BANG BANG CLUB

I visited the Joburg Art Fair last saturday primarily for one reason; meet the two remaining members of the original Bang Bang Club, Greg Marinovich and Joao Silva. They were going to be at the Rooke Gallery stand and would tell little anecdotes behind the pictures. I met them and off course had them sign my copy of the book (see image). This book is an absolute must read! Especially when living in South Africa, you just can't miss out on this brutally honest book. This book will stay with me for ever! They are currently filming the movie of the book which is due for release in september this year.

Here's some more background information about them:
The Bang-Bang Club was a name primarily associated with four photographers active within the townships of South Africa during the Apartheid period, particularly in the years running up to the country’s first democratic elections (27 April 1994). While a number of photographers and photojournalists worked alongside the Bang-Bang Club (such as James Nachtwey and Gary Bernard), Kevin Carter, Greg Marinovich, Ken Oosterbroek, and Joao Silva were the four main men associated with the name.

The name comes from the culture itself; township residents spoke to the photographers about the “bang-bang” as reference to violence occurring within their communities, but more literally, "bang-bang" refers to the sound of gunfire and is a colloquial form of nomemclature used by conflict photographers.

In the course of their work, the members accrued two Pulitzer prizes. Greg Marinovich won the Pulitzer for Spot News Photography for his coverage of the killing of Lindsaye Tshabalala in 1990. Kevin Carter won the Pulitzer for Featured Photography in 1994 for his photograph of a vulture that appeared to be stalking a starving child in southern Sudan. The latter drew intense scrutiny to the roles a photographer was to play, as Carter was asked many times if he had helped the child or not.

Tragically, the photography of the Bang-Bang Club ended with the death of Ken Oosterbroek, killed on April 18, 1994 while photographing a siege in Thokoza, a few days before the elections they had worked so hard to support. Marinovich, who was also shot, documented the incident in an autobiographical book about the "Bang-Bang Club" and believes that, ironically, he and Oosterbroek were inadvertently shot by stray bullets fired by members of the National Peacekeeping Force. Kevin Carter committed suicide on July 27, 1994. Both Greg Marinovich and Joao Silva have remained active photographers. In 2000, they authored The Bang-Bang Club, a book documenting their experiences.

A massive Congratulations to my dear friends Eva & Michael from Toko in Sydney, Australia for winning the 2008 HotShop Awards in the competitive design category. I wouldn't have expected anything else to be quite honest! I still remember us meeting at Studio Dumbar and then decided to all working together at 21 Inch (the name later to be transformed into Toko) in Rotterdam. We were discussing moving overseas... Lots of discussions. Eva & Michael and I were convinced the grass (and the damn climate!) was greener on the other side. I ended up being the first to leave the Netherlands to touch down in Joburg, not too long afterwards Eva & Michael moved to Sydney to conquer Australia and here's the proof...they succeeded! And even more good news for Toko came when the 'Design and Design' team awarded their packaging design for Dutch Summers' Bux (see above). Also check out their rad High Tee's.

I shot this security guard at Cyrildene in Bedfordview (Chinatown), Joburg. The photo is part of a photo documentary series about security guards that I'm working on at the moment. The security guard told me he had to use his shotgun twice. He had shot two people with it. I asked him why he had such a big F-Off shotgun, he replied "The Chinese people we protect like big guns, it scares off people".

LEVI'S BACK POCKET ART

Levi’s initiated the Back Pocket Art project to raise awareness for the fight against Aids. They asked about 25 international artists to come up with a design based upon their famous 501 back pockets. These ‘little pieces of art’ are going on auction for the benefit of an ‘Aids Foundation project’ against the ’stigmatization of Aids’ in the Eastern bloc countries. There are contributions from artists such as fashion designers Bas Kosters, Daryl van Wouw and Marlies Dekkers. Graphic artists like Ottograph, Out of Order and Kingchuub. There are even contributions of music band members from Moke and Voicst. All of the contributors used the Back Pocket as a flat canvas. I wanted to experiment with a 3D object and bring the Back Pocket Art project literally to life. Via Diddo.

WAR PHOTOGRAPHER - JAMES NACHTWEY

Last night I saw the most amazing documentary called War Photographer featuring arguably the world's most famous war photographer James Nachtwey. An absolute must see! He has been awarded the Overseas Press Club's coveted Robert Capa Gold Medal an unprecedented 5 times. Nachtwey has worked with TIME as a contract photographer since 1984. He worked for Black Star from 1980 until 1985 and was a member of Magnum Photos from 1986 until 2001. In 2001, he was a founding member of the VII Photo Agency. In 2003, he was injured by a grenade in an attack on his convoy while serving as a TIME contributing correspondent in Baghdad, from which he has made a full recovery. One of his quotes in the documentary that stuck with me is "Fear is not important, it's how you deal with it".

MONTECASINO GOOD TIMES DESIGN

One of our clients at MetropolitanRepublic is Montecasino. This is their monthly newspaper designed by me. They never really had a monthly newletter and so I came up with the idea to design a real newspaper for them. The newspaper gives a lot of background informations about upcoming events, has picture gallery's, reviews, food tips, etc. None of their competitors has anything like this. The name "The Montecasino Good Times" derives from the big brand campaign we developed for them. The payoff line of the campaign is "Fun, Laughs, Good Times.

35MM, THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL LOERIE AWARDS PARTY...

Every year at the annual Loeries Advertising Awards here in South Africa, MetropolitanRepublic throws the most discussed, controversial party during the awards. I was in charge of the look and feel and design of the party. What an awesome brief... I worked on it with colleague Shane Forbes and designed banners, flyers, t-shirts, car branding, etc. The party was, once again, the most talked about party of the year.

WOS - WOMEN ON SITE CORPORATE IDENTITY

I designed this CI for WOS (Women on Site), a South African organisation that specializes in supplying qualified women to construction companies in South Africa. Since it's compulsary by law in South Africa to have a certain percentage of women in every company, the organisation is in demand. Especially in the construction field in which they specialise, it's notoriously difficult to find qualified women. WOS is the hub between those women and the construction industry.

Absa Capital - The Power of 3.
A unique philosophy was created to relaunch the ABSA Capital brand in South Africa. We called it "The Power of 3." To house this philosophy, 100 limited edition manifestos were developed and dispersed amongst the top 100 business people in country. Termed "The Cubism Manifesto" each edition contained 99 pages of design, typography, illustration and photography that delivered the Power of 3 philosophy to those individuals who could best benefit from ABSA Capital's unique investment knowhow. The end result? ABSA Capital's profits rose 51%.

The campaign had cost us literally blood, sweat and tears. Many many many late nights (as in 03.00 or 04.00 in the middle of the night) went into this project. My boss said; if you want to win a Gold or Grand Prix, you have to die for it. We took his advice and he was right! But it paid of for us... in the most incredible way possible! First we won a Silver Loerie at the annual South African advertising awards, The Loerie Awards and then, at the 2008 Midas Awards, (Part of the New York Festivals) we won 2 Gold ingots and 1 day later, the GRAND PRIX!

ALON SKUY - LIVING INSIDE A BRIDGE

While meeting Alon to discuss a different project I wanted to do with him we were talking about projects that he and myself are doing next to our normal work. This is one of Alon's personal projects called "Living inside a bridge". He befriended a group of people in Joburg that are actually living inside a bridge. He spent a night with them in the bridge and shot this amazing photo documentary (watch an audiovisual slide show here). Afterwards, Alon told me, the group turned out to be a carjack group and they were all arrested...

DOSSIER MAGAZINE ISSUE 3

When Mia (our client) trusted us (MetropolitanRepublic) to take over the design and creative direction of the Dossier magazine after the first issue, we (my colleagues Esti le Roux & Shane Forbes) were honored and excited. All of us had secretly always wanted to design a magazine. Mia's brief to us was simple: Dossier magazine is South Africa’s first and foremost fashion, beauty and travel magazine. Take it to the next level.

Dossier magazine had to stand out from other local fashion magazines, maintain its African roots but at the same time project an International look and feel from a design point of view.

Since we (the designers of the magazine) are all involved in various sub-cultures at a local and International level, we know exactly what’s bubbling in the underground. We draw our inspiration from these scenes and cultures and incorporate it into the design of the magazine. In this way the magazine is always one step ahead of its competition.

The success of the magazine has been very impressive and measurable. Since the appearance of the first Dossier magazine (we’re on issue 3 now), the print run has increased from 3000 to 5000 to 10.000 copies.

Dossier magazine is available from the better bookstores and Exclusive Books. Above are some of the spreads I designed for the third issue.

FUELED MOBILE CONTENT DOWNLOAD SERVICE

Nashua Mobile South Africa's new mobile phone content download service. The brief was to come up with a name, identity and advertising for their latest venture. I came up with the name Fueled and designed the logo, identity, website, illustrations, booklet and many more elements. This was done while working at ad agency Ireland/Davenport.

THE SUPPER CLUB

My good friend Diddo Velema designed and shot this awesome poster. It's just one of these images that will stick in your mind for a long long time. The campaign intrigues and invites attention to the fact that Supperclub is more than a trendy restaurant. The advertisements/posters use the signature Supperclub vocabulary to communicate extensions like the Supperclub Cruise, Supperclub Magazine, and Darkroom, the new opened establishment in San Francisco.

ARRIVE ALIVE - I'M FINE TO DRIVE

I did this project together with my old colleague Chantelle dos Santos while we were both still working at The Jupiter Drawing Room in Johannesburg. The campaign came forth while brainstorming on another client of us at the time Emperors Palace. Laila Ali was going to box there and we came up with the idea to make floor decals of knocked out people on the floor. By brainstorming a bit longer we came to the conclusion that it would be far more effective and necessary to use the idea for Arrive Alive (The South African organisation for safe driving on the SA roads).

Drunk driving contributes to 46% off all deaths and injuries on the South African roads, mainly involving drivers between the ages of 18 and 30. We created a range of decals depicting people in various states of intoxication. Placed in nightclub bathrooms, parking lots and surrounding parking pay station areas, these decals targeted those individuals about to drive drunk, or get into the car of a drunk driver.

The feedback was instant and positive. Research showed the decals hit-home because they weren't lecturing the market. Feeding back the excuses commonly made by drunk drivers was far more powerful.

Press coverage and a radio phone-in initiative were used to enhance the effectiveness of the campaign. We were later interviewed by numerous acclaimed magazines worldwide and even featured on a Japanese TV show!

Awards wise we were acknowledged a Silver Cannes Lion in 2008 in the Media section and had 3 more Cannes finalists in different categories. At the New York Festival Awards 2008, we were honored with a Bronze World Medal. We were acknowledged for the campaign in 2008 at the Epica Awards (Awards for European's best advertising) with a Bronze and Silver Epica award.

XENOPHOBIA HITS JOHANNESBURG

May 2008. Johannesburg is hit by an unexpected thunderstorm named "Xenophobia" that rapidly sweeps its way throughout Joburg. The attacks are on black foreign nationals. 62 people would lose their lives in the attacks. The city fought back, came alive, artists took to the streets to post their messages on the wall. This is a photo I took close to Melville.

CLUB E.S.P. FLYER DESIGN

Flyer design I did for a new concept evening at Club E.S.P. that I'm starting with colleague DJ & friend Eric M. The concept is called "Lost in Trancelation". The music style is, obviously, trance and we'll invite interesting artists (of any kind) to join us during this evening. Our local Jozi's boy Alon Skuy's winning picture of a confrontation between a woman and a security officer (see top picture) "bristles with emotion and action", as is evident in facial expressions and blurred movements.

"He captures a moment of experience that will dwell for a long time with the two people involved, and likewise with the viewer of the picture. Skuy was also commended for his sequence of images showing protestors in pitched warfare with armed police. This is a photographer who does not flinch, even when there is major danger in the air."

LONMIN PLATINUM MINING BROCHURE DESIGN

I designed this brochure for Lonmin Platinum Mining while still working at the Ireland/Davenport ad agency. It was an absolute delight working with the Lonmin client as she gave me complete creative freedom and trusted me fully. The brochure was specifically designed as a once off copy for a presentation from Lonmin to Tiffany & Co in New York. Normally Lonmin would sell their platinum to a middle man who would then sell it to big brands like Bvlgari, etc. This was the first time that Lonmin bypassed the middle man and approached, in this case Tiffany & Co, first hand. This brochure was specifically created and designed for this presentation and gives Tiffany & Co a background about Lonmin, their work ethics and company values. The brochure was presented in a once off wooden box with velvet upholstery on the inside. I wanted to use classic sophisticated typography combined with modern photography and illustrations of some of the machinery they use in their Platinum mines. The Lonmin client phoned immediately after the presentation from New York. Tiffany & Co loved it!

CASTLE LITE BEER LAUNCH POSTERS

I was in charge of all art direction for the campaign. Our campaign was based on the line 'Never look back' and was all about the youth being positive towards the future, express yourself, be an individual that knows what he or she wants and not afraid to fight for their rights. Be in control and stay in control.

HONDA CBR 1000 RR FIREBLADE PRINT AD

This is a print ad I did while working at The Jupiter Drawing Room Joburg for the launch of the new Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade bike. The campaign consists of 3 executions. For this execution we focused on the fact that the bike has the cleanest exhaust in its class. I decided to design a natural landscape that was completely built up and designed out of the bikes' parts. I wanted the illustration to have a Japanese look 'n feel because of Honda's Japanese origin.

"THE DARKROOM" An exhibition of disturbingly beautiful images. I did this poster campaign for South African photographer Graham Kietzmann with my old colleague Dani Vlismas (Copy). Graham had been shooting dark and disturbing images for a number of years and always wanted to do something with them so he decided to do a once off, one night only exhibition that started at midnight on friday the 13th. The campaign went on to win a Bronze World Medal at the New York Festivals in 2007.

MTV BASE AMBIENT CAMPAIGN

I did this campaign with an old colleague and friend of mine, Georja Bunger, while working at the Ireland/Davenport ad agency. The campaign started out as a sort of cover up campaign for a major print f*ck up that the printer had made while printing the new business cards that were designed for MTV Base South Africa. Thousands of business cards... useless! Our brief was literally to do something with them and make them of some kind of use. We felt like modern day spin doctors trying to cover up some scandal.

Since the business cards were a sort of an environmental stuff up, we decided to give back to nature (yes yes!) and since it was close to spring we decided to create plants and flowers out of the business cards and stick them up on the ugly walls around town. This way we could make the town look a bit brighter and prettier. We started out by constructing as many different flower and plant shapes as we possibly could with the restriction of only 6 different business cards, front and back. After that, we went into the city and stuck them up on ugly walls. Spring had come early that year...

Here's some CD & 12" sleeves I designed while working at 21 Inch/Toko with friends Michael Lugmayr & Eva Dijkstra. The top sleeve is a record sleeve for the Decibel Anthem. Decibel is a large Hardstyle & Trance party in the Netherlands that attracts over 10.000 people every edition. The 2nd CD sleeve is for ID&T, Holland's biggest party organiser. It's a techno double CD. The third CD sleeve is for a Hardbass double CD. Hardbass is a large Hardstyle party in tha Netherlands that attracts over 10.000 people every edition. The last record sleeve is for a new record label called Low Boombastic Sounds for newstyle hardcore music. I happened to produce the first release myself as The Sound Enhancers. The track went on to climb to the number 1 position of Hollands' most prestigious hardcore dance list! You might even recognise my face at the right bottom...

POSTER FOR CARLING BLACK LABEL JAZZ NIGHT

This poster I designed for the Carling Black Label Jazz night at Legendary Jazz venue the Blues Room in Joburg. Client wanted his logo, BIG. Instead of doing that, I decided it was much more impactful for the brand and cooler to use a South African street artist to make me a bass gitar out of a Carling Black Label beer can. Client loved it!

ROMEO & JULIA POSTER

This is a poster I designed while at the Art Academy. The poster is for a Dutch version of the Romeo and Juliet theatre play. The director came to our Art Academy and briefed us very passionately about the play and ensured us she was going to put MAJOR emphasis on the violent parts in the story and the love parts so I tried to portray that in my execution. We all went to go see the play and it was very very dissapointing! No violence, actually the opposite and a cat looking at a Whiskas pack in a lame TV commercial projects more 'love' than the chemistry between the lead actors... We had a good laugh though.

BEG BOARDS IN JOHANNESBURG

This is my Art Academy graduation project which I did here in Johannesburg in 2001. I'm responsible for the concept, design, copy and photography of the whole project. When I first came to Joburg, it struck me that there were so many beggars. Virtually every main intersection has got them. They all have the same "beg boards" that all look the same and say the same. Most of them have messages or outcries written like "No food, no job, no family. Please help. God Bless". But because there are so many of them and they all look the same, they just don't stand out anymore and Joburg citizens have become immune to them. Its like trying to point out one bike among the millions of bikes in the Netherlands. So what I wanted to do with this project is to see if I could make a change (at least a small one) by using my graphic design skills. I wanted to design new Beg Boards for them and hand them out for free. My 3 objectives were: 1. To let them make more money (that's what's most important to them). 2. To have the public start a conversation with them. 3. To make them visible on the streets again.

I started the project by interviewing about 35 beggars and gaining their trust. I asked them questions like: What's your name? What's your age?, Where were you born? What's your age? What languages do you speak? Do you have family? Do you always operate on the same spot? How long do you stand on the corner every day? How much money do you make in a day? Where do you live? etc. Then I decided to make new beg boards for 10 of them. Some were custom made, others more generic. I used humour, nifty copywriting, confronting images, quotes and other tools. Anything to attract the attention of the beggar savvy Joburg public. I also asked them if they had specific wishes for their new boards. Interesting things and requests came out such as; they have to be rain proof, light, no sharp cords, colorful, etc.

I handed out the new boards to them and came back after a week and a half to interview them again to find out if the boards had made a difference. I'm very pleased to say that in all cases the beggars had earned more money, were asked questions by the public and they were actually noticed again.

Back in the Netherlands I documented the whole project in a visual essay and a newspaper that I wanted to give away for free. I found a willing printer in Mart Spruijt printers in Amsterdam that sponsored the paper and so I was able to hand out the newspapers for free. Many thanks to them. I really appreciated it!

I executed the whole graduation project while living here in Joburg for half a year. While I was doing the project I had no contact whatsoever with my teachers, hence their surprise for my request to graduate at the same time with all my classmates that had to discuss their projects with 3 graduation year teachers twice a week! As soon as I showed them the project they were amazed and I graduated with honors that year. After my graduation I also won the Academy's most prestigious award, the Piet Bakker Award that gets awarded to the person who's work is most provocative, innovative,ground breaking and self initiating. Needless to say that I was the proudest guy alive! After winning the award, a flood of press interest came upon me. I was published in numerous acclaimed National and International newspapers and magazines and even made appearances in some of the most respected Radio and TV shows. I was also invited to participate in multiple other art exhibitions.

Our record company (Midtown Records in the Netherlands) phoned... "Guys I've got good news, in fact, very good news! You have just been awarded a Silver Record in the UK for your dance music single "Blow ya Mind" by Lock 'n Load! It recognises the fact that you guys sold over 200.000 copies in the UK alone". Well... that's FUCKIN' amazing we replied!!! "Than, to make your day even better, you guys have also been awarded a GOLDEN Record for the same single in Scandinavia!"... WHAT THE FUCK! That's awesome! U sure this is not some sick joke?!! "Nope...It's Real!". We partied... HARD!

We're (My music buddy and best friend Niels Pijpers and myself) busy in the studio, working on one of our new Lock 'n Load tracks. We had just been awarded a Golden Record and Silver Record, the vibe was good! (Understatement!) or... as a friend of us (Ben Crossman) would say: the vibe was bitchin'. The phone rings... "Hi, we're from the official QUEEN management and we were wondering if you guys would be interested in doing a remix for Freddy Mercury?"

What the HELL is going on here?! It feels like deja vu as we ask them if this is some kind of sick joke? "UHHH, No it's not guys, we'd really like you to do a remix for Freddy's song 'Love Kills', u guys interested?" We're trying to keep our cool and reply "yes, sure, that'd be great!" "Ok, great" the voice on the other side replies. "So what do you guys charge for the remix and when can it be ready?" Our 'cool' had dropped on the floor alongside our jaws, but we managed to pick it up and "fake ruffled" our supposedly fully booked agenda. (We would have dropped anything and anyone to have done the remix, but they didn't have to share in this knowledge). "UHMM, we're thinking of .............. £ (An astronomical amount of Great British Pounds that I will not disclose, sorry...) and we can have it ready in 3 weeks from now if that's ok?". "Yeah, that sounds like a deal" the Queen management replied. "Oh, and by the way, we are going to release it on the Parlophone label, the official label of the Beatles. Thought you guys might be interested in knowing that". We couldn't believe what we were hearing!!! "Alright, we'll send you the studio outtakes of Freddy by courier, you should have it by tomorrow". And so it was done! We were going to remix Freddy Mercury and it was for REAL!!!!

Needless to say, we worked our ASSES OFF on that remix and till date, I still think it is one of the best remixes we ever produced! A courier was going to come pick up the DAT tape with the remix from our studio on monday morning at 06.00 sharp in the morning. We worked till 04.00 that night to do the final mixdown. We're exhausted!

That same day round 16.00 the phone rings. It was the Queen management.
The only thing they said was:
"WE FUCKIN' LOVE IT!"

KULTIVATE CLOTHING BRAND

In January 2002 two partners and myself founded Kultivate Clothing. A rebellious clothing brand for people with attitude and a good sense of their own individuality. As Creative Director I was responsible for the brand, its visual identity and all visual communication such as: advertising, the corporate identity, website, clothing designs, fashion shows, fashion fair stands and concepts, accessories, gadgets, sales books, photo shoots (including sourcing models), brochures, production preparations, digital mailers, online content and attracting and directing freelancers. Kultivate is still operating and expanding Internationally. Kultivate is currently being sold in The Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, Australia, Belgium, Greece and the UK.

I designed this flyer for Dutch dance party organisation B2S Events. This is a flyer for a series of parties called Back2School. The parties are well known in the Netherlands for playing house music classics from the early days.

This poster was designed by me in my first year of Art Academy. It's for an African short film based on superstition around African statues. I decided to hand paint the poster combined with other techniques to best capture the African culture and art.

I shot these photo's while in Vancouver for a DJ tour. If you're ever in Vancouver, do yourself a favour and go visit the Elbow Room. Vancouver's best breakfast joint where the waiters and waitresses are very, very rude, on purpose! It's awesome. You'll get welcome greets like 'sit your fat ass down' and when you ask for a refill expect to get a reply like "What's wrong with your f-ing hands, got get it yourself you piece of crap". You're more than likely being served by the next Mickey Rourke or Kyra Nightly since almost all waiters are aspiring actors and actresses. If you don't finish your food, you have to pay at least 10$ that gets donated to a local charity. As you could have guessed, it became my favourite breakfast joint during my stay...

This is a typographic experiment I did in our type workspace at the Art Academy. It's done on a real wooden letterpress. Love the non-photoshop real experiments and did loads of 'em!
